What’s the difference between Bioflex and Bioplast?

There are many cheaply manufactured rip offs calling themselves Bioflex on the market. If these websites are selling this stuff for cheap, then it’s probably not Bioflex! A plastic that has not been tested and medically approved can be dangerous in your body. Please, for your own safety, do not buy cheap jewelry calling itself Bioflex or Bioplast.
This article is to give YOU the customer an idea of what you are looking at when visiting any website selling body jewelry.
Some websites sell genuine Bioflex, many body jewelry websites sell genuine Bioplast. Some sell Bioplast but call it Bioflex because they didn’t get it from the original source and don’t know the difference, some sell cheap imitations.
Bioflex was developed in the UK from and has been tested and certified for use in the body. It has strict quality control guidelines in manufacturing and uses Swarovski or high quality crystals and is highly polished. There is only one source for Bioflex (and our supplier is it!).
Bioplast is similar in composition to Bioflex, but the jewelry itself looks different For example the discs of a Bioplast labret are thicker than a Bioflex labret (also you can see on the picture below the disc has a seam that is not polished off). Bioflex labrets have thinner smoother discs. Bioplast labrets are usually sold with metal or Bioplast ends that have little claws on the post. Bioflex push fit ends do not have the claws and slip smoothly into the labret channel. The Bioflex retainer bead is smaller and rounded whereas the Bioplast retainer bead is more like a flat disc. The Bioflex push fit gem ends are Swarvoski Crystal and this is why the jewelled Bioflex is more expensive than on some other websites as the cheap jewelry uses cut glass.

Bioflex pins are smooth and fit tightly.

A Bioplast navel bar usually has a rounder bottom ball:
Bioflex was the first to come up with the new generation of navel barbells which have a thinner profile for the bottom jewel, so it fits nicely into the navel.

Bioflex navel bars have sparkly Swarovski Crystals that are brilliantly cut and the top ball is “push on” so it will pop off if the piercing is stressed.
Some manufacturers have copied this new design and are selling their jewelry under the Bioflex name. Again…look at the price! If it’s cheap, it’s probably because it IS cheap!
The Bioflex nose screw retainer has a 1.5mm end which is rounded and smooth whereas the Bioplast has a larger 2mm end.
